Family of God - Mark 3: 31-35
Scripture Reading
Mark 3:31-35 (ESV)
Jesus' Mother and Brothers
31 And his mother and his brothers came, and standing outside they sent to him and called him. 32 And a crowd was sitting around him, and they said to him, “Your mother and your brothers[a] are outside, seeking you.” 33 And he answered them, “Who are my mother and my brothers?” 34 And looking about at those who sat around him, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! 35 For whoever does the will of God, he is my brother and sister and mother.”
Reflection:
Jesus’ mother and brothers come looking for Him, and the crowd lets Him know. Instead of immediately going out to them, He looks around at those seated around Him and says, “Here are my mother and my brothers! For whoever does the will of God, he is my brother and sister and mother.”
Jesus isn’t dishonoring His earthly family; He’s redefining family around obedience to God.
For worship teams, this is huge. We’re not just a roster or a rotation—we’re invited to live as family in Christ. That means care, honesty, accountability, forgiveness, and shared mission.
Being on a worship team is not mainly about talent; it’s about being part of a spiritual family that does the will of God together.
Personal Questions:
- Do I view my worship team as family, or just as coworkers/volunteers?
- How well do I love, support, and pray for the people I serve with?
- Is there any relationship on the team that needs forgiveness, reconciliation, or understanding?
Team Questions:
- What would it look like for us to function more like a spiritual family?
- How can we create a culture of encouragement, honesty, and mutual care?
- What practical steps can we take to strengthen our relationships offstage?
Prayer:
Father, thank You for making me part of Your family through Jesus. Help me to love my team as brothers and sisters, not just fellow musicians. Show me how to serve, encourage, and walk in unity so that our worship reflects Your heart. Amen.
