Affirmed & Sent - Mark 1:9-13
Scripture Readings (ESV)
Mark 1:9-13 In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And when he came up out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.” The Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness. And he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. And he was with the wild animals, and the angels were ministering to him.
Reflection:
Before Jesus preached, healed, or performed miracles, He was affirmed by the Father. His identity was secure before His ministry began—and before His testing followed.
We must remember that our service as worship leaders flows from God’s delight in us, not from a need to prove ourselves. Even wilderness seasons do not cancel our calling—they refine it.
When our identity is rooted in God’s voice, we can lead with confidence, humility, and peace—even when ministry feels difficult.
Personal Questions:
- Where do you tend to look for affirmation?
- How does knowing you are God’s beloved shape your worship?
- Are you currently in a “wilderness” season—and what might God be teaching you?
Team Questions:
- Why is identity crucial for healthy worship leadership?
- How can we encourage one another during difficult seasons?
- How do we guard against performance-based faith?
Prayer:
Father, remind me that I am loved by You apart from what I do. Help me rest in my identity as Your child. Strengthen me in seasons of testing and teach me to trust You completely. Amen.
